Surreal on top of surreal. I am sure there is some witty word play here with the word “cereal”, but I’m a bit disoriented after watching this thing that in the context of when I saw it originally didn’t seem all that odd.
Goddamn the eighties were surreal. This is totally like a SNL skit and yet it’s real.

This started and I thought “this has the potential to be the greatest thing I have ever seen”. Then around 47 seconds in it starts the “U.S.A. America” thing and I know I am watching something truly special and unique. It’s not just the story of a ghost with stunning raven locks, it is the story of a specter and a patriot and that’s what it’s about, people: “U.S.A. America…we stand as one”, never said better.

Thanks, Newby!

Surprised Micachu is only on here once.

Proof that I live in Indiana.

No idea what that Tillman crap is.

I love me some Coltrane.
Actual Shazam results.
Toolbox. Hell, I say that’s a lunchbox and no one is ever going to steal your Goldfish and Fruits by the Foots again.
So I’m shopping around for toolboxes, and in the sea of yellow, red, and black rectangles, this comes up. Christmas is like two months away, friends*.
* Thank you for not buying me this even as a joke.
I got this album a few months back. It is uncannily modern sounding. Gainsbourg is a trip and all over the map stylistically - for example Aux Armes et Cætera is totally my favorite French/Reggae-Dub Album. Highly recommended. The two volume Love and the Beat and L’alcool
are nice jumping off points for the uninitiated.
Way better but not embeddable: Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin - “L’histoire de Melody Nelson”
This record is so good, and the production is so amazing, and the entire thing is just soooo creepy.
Histoire de Melody Nelson is a 1971 concept album by controversial French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. The Lolita-esque pseudo-autobiographical plot involves the middle-aged Gainsbourg unintentionally colliding his Rolls Royce Silver Ghost into teenage nymphet Melody Nelson’s bicycle, and the subsequent seduction and romance that ensues. Histoire de Melody Nelson is considered by many critics and fans to be Gainsbourg’s most influential and accomplished album.
Ah, the French. They really do have their own thing going on.
